Hello all,
I used Pinnacle Studio 15 with Dazzle DVC100 for capture of VHS tapes. Installed and ran with no problems,
Recently, however, Studio 15 started playing up, so I tried a few other programs and discovered that I could capture in AVS Video Recorder. I then uninstalled Studio.
Unfortunately this also uninstalled the DVC100 drivers. Again, no problem, just reinstall the drivers from using the saved Pinnacle_Video_Driver_64bit.exe on the original installation CD.
Ran this program and received the message The wizard was interrupted before Pinnacle Video Driver could be completely installed.
Your system has been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
Tried 6 or 7 times and received the same message each time.
OK, then, reinstall Studio 15. Did this, and Device Manager shows Other Devices - DVC100 and Unknown device, both with yellow triangles, in Sound, Video and Game controllers I have a DVC100 entry which I am told is working properly.
Properties show no drivers installed.
Update drivers - Browse pc - message Windows was unable to install your DVC100. Windows could not find software for your device.
Update drivers - Search online for software - message Windows could not find driver software for your device.
Dazzle Video Capture Usb Driver
In both cases I was advised to visit manufacturer for drivers. This of course led to Pinnacle_Video_Driver_64bit.exe again.
In Sound,Video and Game controllers I have a DVC100 entry which I am told is working properly.
I have tried everything I have found online forums with no success. I did see that Pinnacle Marvin Bus is also needed for the device.
I have MarvinBus64.sys in c:Windowssystem32drivers but nothing in Device Manager.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled after trying out each suggestion, and get the same result every time.
I investigated further. I have found an installation log for the driver installation which states that it failed with a 1603
error.
Searching for this gives the following:
Error 1603 issues
Error 1603 is an error caused in Windows 7 while trying to install a
Microsoft Windows Installer package. When the error is caused, it
prompts the user with an error message and an ‘OK’ button. When the
user acknowledges the error message the installation aborts and rolls
back. This means that the user can no longer be able to install the
package until the Error 1603 is fixed.
Reasons
The reasons behind error 1603 are several. It can occur if you are
trying to install it into an encrypted folder. It can also appear if
you are trying to install on a drive which is actually a
substitute/temporary drive. Windows Installer is installed under the
SYSTEM account. If the SYSTEM account doesn’t have Read/Write
permissions over the folder to which you are installing, the 'Error
1603' will occur.
Remedial measures
'Error 1603' can be resolved in different ways depending on the
reasons behind the error. If you are trying to install it in an
encrypted folder, try installing it in a non-encrypted folder. Also
make sure that the folder is not in a substitute drive. To modify
permission rights, open ‘My Computer’ and right click on the drive to
which you want to install. Select ‘Properties’ and then select
‘Security’ tab. Verify that the SYSTEM account is selected. If not,
click ‘Add’ and add the SYSTEM account. Now go to ‘Permissions’ tab
and select ‘Full Control’ under ‘Allow. Click ‘OK’ and close the
dialog boxes. This will set the permission levels for SYSTEM account
and allows you to install it in any folder under the selected drive.
I do not have an encrypted folder or substitute drive.
